MESPOM Graduation 2008

On June 19th, 2008, 36 MESPOM students became Masters of Science. The formal part of the graduation, a part of CEU commencement ceremony, took place in the Vígszínház, an imposing 19th century theatre building. In the presence of George Soros, Kofi Annan and many other distinguished guests, the students received their certificates. This year’s CEU commencent speaker was Diana Ürge-Vorsatz, a member of the IPCC, the 2007 Noble Peace Price winner and a MESPOM faculty member.

CEU is qualified to participate in the US Federal Student Financial Assistance Programs

There is a good news for our applicants from the United States. Central European University has received the Title IV registration at the US Department of Education and now qualified to participate in the Federal Student Financial Assistance Programs.

The CEU's Federal School Code is G40215.

Apply now to the Energy for Sustainable Development Online Course

Applications are now open for the next “Foundation Session” of the Energy for Sustainable Development Online Course (E4SD), scheduled from 18 August – 28 September 2008.

The E4SD Course aims to provide deeper knowledge of energy’s relationship to sustainable development and how the delivery of clean, affordable energy services, wise management of energy resources, and the leveraging of technological and institutional energy related opportunities can serve as instruments to reach that goal.

MESPOM graduate awarded Development Cooperation Prize for her thesis

Tahia Devisscher, a MESPOM graduate of 2007 has been awarded a Development Cooperation Prize from Belgian Development Cooperation for her MESPOM thesis on the impact of biofuel production in Malaysia. Read more about Tahia's thesis work.

MESPOM student receives Pan-African Prize for Entrepreneurial Teachers

Leonard Akwany, a MESPOM student (06-08), has won the 1st Pan-African Prize for Entrepreneurial Teachers. Leonard, a leader of Eco-finders Youth Movement in Kenya, has been working to promote environmental entrepreneurship in the poorest region of the country since 1995. Through cost sharing and improvisation Eco-finders has been able to use its limited resources to reach out to over 100 schools and hundreds of community groups, to establish ‘Environmental Enterprises’. Eco-finder members have been involved in a diverse range of enterprises, learning both technical and business skills in a hands on manner.

MESPOM students win Lund Green Prix

The Lund Green Prix is the final event in the ISS (Industrial Sustasinability Strategies) course. Students design a "car" constructed from simple materials such as card-board, wood sticks and plastic straws.


Erasmus Mundus scholarships for 2008-2010

For 2008-2010, the European Commission will provide not only general Erasmus Mundus scholarships - available to students from all third-countries - but also additional scholarships for nationals of West Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. We strongly encourage eligible candidates from these countries to apply to MESPOM.

Nobel Peace Prize and MESPOM

The Nobel Peace Prize of 2007 has been awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".

Application deadlines for 2008-2010

The application deadlines for the 2008-2010 study period are as follows:

  • January 4th, 2008 - for all applicants seeking Erasmus Mundus scholarships or other financial assistance from the MESPOM Consortium as well as for applicants from the EU countries;
  • February 28th, 2008 - for all other applicants;
