Policy adviser for Greenpeace

Marta VetierSince March I have been working as a junior policy adviser on genetic engineering at Greenpeace European Unit. The Unit is based in Brussels; it monitors and analyses the work of the EU institutions, exposing deficient EU policies and laws, and challenging decision-makers to implement progressive solutions. Greenpeace European Unit also plays a role in coordinating the Europe-based national and regional offices of Greenpeace. This way Greenpeace is able to influence decision-making processes at the levels where the decisions are being made: national ministries, national authorities, national parliament, European Commission, European Parliament etc.

Job with Holcim after MESPOM

I am sure by now you must be wondering where I landed after this exciting voyage of MESPOM. Take a deep breath, here it goes... I was picked up by the Holcim Group (the 2 nd largest manufacturer of cement in the World) as a Corporate Assistant Manager-Environment. I actually felt the benefit of the MESPOM course during my interview, when I was selected from the group, which included people with almost double the work experience I had.

Job back in China

Mengmeng profile picture

I come from China and joined MESPOM after graduating from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan. At MESPOM I followed the "Preventive Environmental Strategies" track at Lund University.

Finishing MESPOM was an accomplishment in life. Toward the end of the program, I received a job offer from a small UK carbon trading company with an office in Shanghai. My boss from Australia has great attitude and convinced me to come back to China although my original plan was to stay in Europe.

Hope to combine a new job with PhD studies

I am from Germany and studied Social Sciences in Bordeaux and Stuttgart as well as did an internship at UNEP in Nairobi before joining MESPOM in 2005. During MESPOM, one of the best experiences of my life, I went to Manchester for the 3rd semester, but came back to CEU for my thesis since I also worked on several research projects related to energy and sustainable buildings. I am currently a PhD-student at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy at CEU, but will start a new job at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE, in Geneva) soon. I will be working in the Secretariat of the Water Convention. I hope to continue part-time PhD studies at CEU. MESPOM has helped me to realize some of the dreams of my life.

Jennifer Lenhart (USA), Class'07

I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle where I studied International Studies and Development. Beyond academics, I have spent time in many fields. Among these, I was employed at the International Programs Office at UW and spent a year volunteering with children’s education in Les Cayes, Haiti and several months in Antigua, Guatemala. Additionally, I have worked with sustainability education for an NGO, (Sustainable Seattle) and with emerging environmental policies in Seattle, working with International Sustainable Solutions. From these experiences and past study in both Sweden and Thailand, I recognized the need to protect and promote the environment whilst working in both a local and an international context. Thus, an international master’s was extremely attractive.
