Summer for Earthquake Recovery, Corporate Social Responsibility and Green Houses in Sichuan
Posted November 9th, 2008 by huang.he
I come from China and joined MESPOM in 2007 after graduating from Peking University. This summer (between attending the University of the Aegean and the University of Manchester) I was an intern of Ecologia, a US organization, involved in MESPOM's ENVERA partnership. My internship took place in Chinese province of Sichuan soon after it experienced the tragic 8.0 Ms earthquake. Extraordinary things happening there go beyond the recovery efforts. In particular the post-earthquake situation provided a stage for strengthening of Corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Research on environmental issues in China is growing at one of MESPOM's partners - CEU’s Dept. of Environmental Sciences and Policy, which is now developed in connection to MESPOM's ENVERA partnership (Erasmus Mundus Action 3 programme). Faculty, students, and visiting scholars increasingly are drawn to understand and share useful knowledge on environmental issues in China. Environmental issues represent both opportunities and challenges in China, as elsewhere in the world. However, China presents unique considerations with regards to environmental protection related to several factors including economic transition and growth, environmental policy, energy production and consumption, etc.
