Erasmus Mundus Scholars

The MESPOM Consortium is hosting outstanding third-country scholars who are interested in contributing to the study programme and strengthening academic partnerships with the Consortium. Selected academics are hosted for a period of up to three months in one of the Consortium’s institutions. During this period they teach or develop elements of the MESPOM course, supervise thesis projects of MESPOM students and/or engage in independent research or other activities aimed to enhance the quality of MESPOM. Interested academics are invited to elaborate on their proposed contribution to MESPOM in the Application Form . The exact form of contribution is determined by a contract between the visiting scholar and the MESPOM Consortium.

  • In 2005-2006, three scholars from Brasil, Russia and the USA contributed to MESPOM
  • In 2006-2007, six scholars from Canada, China, Malaysia, Serbia, Ukraine and the USA contributed to MESPOM
  • In 2007-2008, five scholars from Australia, India, Russia and USA will contribute to MESPOM

European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus scholarships

The European Commission supports academics contributing to MESPOM by special scholarships under Action 2 of the Erasmus Mundus programme. Each scholarship consists of the fixed amount of uo to €1,000 and a monthly stipend of €4,000 for a period of up to three months.

Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available to the academics who are:

  1. Selected by the MESPOM Consortium based on their outstanding academic and/or professional experience through the selection process described below;
  2. Are citizens of any country except the 25 EU member states, EEA/EFTA countries (Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein), or the EU candidate countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Turkey);
  3. Are not legal residents of any of the countries mentioned under (2) above;
  4. In the last five years have not spent more than 12 months for their main activity (work, study, etc.) in any of the countries mentioned under (2) above.

Application and selection process

The MESPOM Academic Board will select outstanding scholars according to the following criteria:

  • Academic excellence including prominence in the field and publication record;
  • Potential contribution to the MESPOM course including relevance of the expertise and experience;
  • Teaching competence – successful applicants will be able to deliver high quality courses in English.
  • Contribution to diversity (disciplinary and geographic background) and the potential for future collaboration with the MESPOM Consortium.

Interested scholars are required to apply to the MESPOM Consortium by e-mail by January 4, 2008. The application should include:

  • Completed Application Form;
  • Curriculum Vitae with list of publications and taught courses;
  • Two letters of recommendation;
  • Two sample publications in English.

Shortlisted candidates may subsequently be interviewed by a member of the MESPOM Academic Board . The list of selected scholars will be endorsed by the European Commission. The final decision will be communicated to the applicants in May 2007. The academic visits may take place from September 2008 until June 2009.
