Where to go from Manchester... if you can have access to a car

Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Yorkshire dales national park

North-East from Manchester along the M6 motorway, you can reach the Yorkshire Dales National Park after 2 hours of driving. The national park is less famous, and hence less crowded than the neighbouring Lake District National Park. It has beautiful valleys (dales) with dry stone walls and dry stone field houses, it is filled with baby sheep and birdsong in the spring. I recommend you try the famous Wenslydale cheese from Hawes and take a walk in the Swaledale valley.

Lake DistrictLake District National Park. From Manchester you can reach the well known Lake District National Park within 2-3 hours of driving (depending on how far inside you take your car). The Lake District is more rigid than other hills in North-England, that's why British people are crazy for it. But I have to tell you honestly, that if you have been in the Tatras, Alps - or some higher mountains, the Lake District will not be such a great experience for you. Anyway, it is worth visiting!
Hutton RoofHutton Roof limetone pavement.Hidden between the Lake District NP, the Yorkshire Dales NP and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) lies another small AONB: Arnside and Silverdale. From Hutton Roof village at grid ref SD 570 783 you will find an amazing landscape - a hill paved with limestone. To get the most exciting experiences, visit the site before the the leaves of the plants are out.
